ROADEF/EURO Challenge 2010: A large-scale energy management problem with varied constraints

Thanks to the success of the previous six challenges ROADEF'99, ROADEF'2001, ROADEF'2003, ROADEF'2005, ROADEF'2005, ROADEF'2007 and ROADEF'2009 the French Operational Research (OR) and Decision Support Society (ROADEF) organizes exceptionnaly jointly with the European Operational Research Society (EURO) the ROADEF/EURO challenge 2010 dedicated to a large-scale production management problem with varied constraints in collaboration with EDF.

This challenge is open to everyone, and particularly to young researchers, excluding people professionally involved with the industrial partners.

The goal of this challenge has multiple aspects. First, it allows some of our industrial partners to witness recent developments in the field of Operations Research and Decision Analysis.

Second, through the junior category young researchers have the opportunity to face up to a complex optimization problem occured in industry. The challenge will give them an opportunity to explore the requirements and difficulties encountered in industrial applications. We hope that this challenge will help to establish a permanent partnership between manufacturers and young scientists on industrial size projects which require both high scientific qualification and the real-life practices in companies making use of decision analysis.

Third, through the senior category, this challenge also allows qualified researchers to show their knowledge and demonstrate their know-how on pratical problems. This also gives them the opportunity to establish partnerships with industrial companies.

Last, a third prize dedicated to parallel computing methods is proposed for the first time.
